Aziz Durrani

Team Lead & Senior Technical Assistance Specialist

Mr. Aziz Durrani joined AMRO in 2021 and currently leads its technical assistance function, overseeing the provision of capacity development and technical assistance programs to the central banks and ministries of finance of ASEAN+3 member economies.

He has over 20 years of experience in international banking, finance, and financial sector regulation. His areas of expertise include banking supervision, financial stability, stress testing, liquidity risk management, cross-border payment and settlement systems, climate risk, and regulatory policy development.

Prior to joining AMRO, he was a Senior Financial Sector Specialist at The SEACEN Centre in Kuala Lumpur from 2016 to 2021, where he provided technical assistance and delivered training programs to central banks and regulatory authorities across Asia. Earlier, he served as a Senior Technical Specialist at the Bank of England from 2009 to 2016, where he led the wholesale banking stress testing initiative, conducted asset quality and non-performing loan reviews, and contributed to the expansion of the Bank’s liquidity regime.

Before entering the public sector, he held positions at Andersen Business Consulting, Standard Chartered Bank, and Lloyds Banking Group, with experience spanning strategy consulting, structured finance and syndicated lending, asset and liability management, and leveraged finance restructuring.

Mr. Durrani holds a degree in Economics and Philosophy from the University of Nottingham, United Kingdom. He is also a Visiting Senior Fellow at the Centre for Economic Transition Expertise at the London School of Economics.
