Alex Liyang Tang

Economist

Dr. Liyang (Alex) Tang joined AMRO in February 2022. He adopts frontier modelling ideas and techniques in developing macroeconomic models that support AMRO’s analyses of ASEAN+3 policies.

Prior to joining AMRO, Dr. Tang worked at the Research Bureau of the People’s Bank of China from July 2017 to February 2022, where he conducted macroeconomic and financial research, as well as central-bank related policy analyses. Prior to that, he served as a researcher at the think tank, Center for New Structural Economics of Peking University, from 2016 to 2017, and also had two short stints as university faculty staff.

Dr. Tang obtained his Ph.D. in Theoretical Economics from Tsinghua University, and Bachelor in Fundamental Science of Math and Physics for Application from the Academic Talent Program of Tsinghua University. His research publications include papers on macroeconomic modelling, return on capital, and structural economic reforms in various academic journals.
